Class Descriptions

Yin Yoga

This practice of long-held floor yoga poses targets the connective tissues of the body, such as ligaments and tendons. The focus of this class is releasing the body from chronic constriction due either to injury or repetitive motion, while also providing relief from chronic physical pain. We pair this physical release with an exploration of the circulation of chi/prana, our life force energy, throughout the body along the twelve energy meridians recognized by Chinese Medicine. Yin Yoga can help us build a "window of tolerance," improve mental focus and build a foundation for a regular meditation practice. This class is appropriate for all levels and many choices for modifications will be given. It may be helpful to have yoga blocks, blankets and/or bolsters for class if they are available to you.

Slow Flow Yoga

This Hatha yoga practice believes less is more.  Rather than flowing quickly from pose to pose, we will pause and explore alignment and sensations of the poses by holding them just a bit longer. This practice focuses on gaining flexibility and strength while also bringing a deeper awareness of both the physical and energetic (breath) bodies.  We will emphasize repetition and ease of movement through sun salutations, standing postures, balance, twists, hip openers, backbends and forward folds. This class is appropriate for all levels and many choices for modifications will be given.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates focuses on building strength, flexibility and length throughout the body.  We will focus on core engagement and balancing muscle engagement patterns in the body. This class is appropriate for all levels and many choices for mofications will be given.  Mat Pilates can greatly assist any yoga practice by learning to engage the core and strengthen the arms and legs to help in every yoga pose. This class is appropriate for all levels and many choices for modifications will be given.

Balance Ball Pilates

Balance Ball Pilates will utilized the "half ball" small apparatus to assist us in going deeper into the Pilates mat repertoire and access some of the reformer repertoire as well.  This class requires equipment and you can find several choices for the half balance ball on Amazon. I suggest this version Click Here. This class is for any level of pilates student, however please be aware that it can be more intense.  If you have questions about equipment or whether this class is for you, please don't hesitate to contact me so we can discuss it further.
